THIS EVENT IS IN STRENGTH FOR DOUG CAMPBELL AND IN MEMORY OF MICHAEL TURNER
Doug Campbell is a husband, father of three beautiful girls, a mountain biker, a runner and a triathlete. Doug also has an incurable form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that he was first diagnosed with in February of 2000. Doug has been through two different chemotherapy treatments, two rounds of a monoclonal antibody treatment and is currently in clinical trial with another type of chemotherapy agent. In 2004, Doug started training for his first Ironman Triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) but soon suffered a stress fracture which kept him from competing in the race. However, Doug did manage to finish an Ironman 70.3 Triathlon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) in April of this year. He considered this race his first steps towards training for another Ironman but unfortunately his cancer doesn't seem to want to cooperate with his plans and he has been unable to compete since due to treatment. He is currently in need of a marrow transplant which is his best shot at a cure. Doug’s girls are ages 11, 9 and 5 and are all beautiful little blondes which he claims gets their good looks from their mother that was gracious enough to marry him.
Doug’s wife Stacey is currently training to participate in her first ever endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training. On November 16 in San Antonio she will run the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon in honor of her husband Doug and his fight against blood cancer. Please help support Stacey, her husband Doug and all the others who are suffering from blood cancer. These people are our real heroes!
